We are almost at the end of January, a moment that is highly significant as on the final day, I can walk home in good light, even on a cloudy day, though even at this time of the year, 5pm is an early finishing time. In the soil, despite the freezing temperatures, there will just be the slightest root growth, and though average temperatures in January and February are very similar, the light levels certainly increase. Our seed potatoes are available now. We sell them by the kg (only £1.90 per kg including Belle De Fontenay) so you can select exactly the amount you need and gives you the opportunity to try out new varieties. We sell: 1st Earlies - Arran Pilot, Belle De Fontenay, Epicure, Pentland Javelin, Rocket and Swift. 2nd Earlies - Kestrel. Salad - Charlotte, Int. Kidney, Juliette, Nicola, Pink Fir Apple and Ratte. We are back open after the break and there's plenty of blossom and scent around the garden and nursery. Pictured are the fragrant sweet box along the main nursery walkway (which has lovely purple berries), the witch hazel along the wall, the blossom of the Prunus Autumnalis outside the wall entrance and a frosted Mahonia (we have Charity, Winter Sun, Lionel fortesque, Bealii and Apollo in stock).
