Get a head-start on next year's bedding displays by taking cuttings from summer-flowering geraniums. How to take geranium cuttings Your requirements will be a mother geranium plant, a sharp knife, some seed compost and some means of keeping the compost warm once the cuttings are inserted. Cut the mother geranium plant just above a leaf joint on the main stem and then trim the cutting you've taken to just below the joint. Strip off most of the leaves from the geranium cutting. Autumn planting and late colour

There is great late colour on the nursery this week and it's the perfect time to plant ready for next year.  We have our Winter Pansies, Polyanthus, Wallflowers and Violas out for sale (starting from £6.75 for a tray of 15, or 45p a plant) and over 50 new varieties of unusual shrubs coming onto the nursery for the weekend. A greenhouse gives you the opportunity to sow seeds and grow plants much earlier in the year than you can outside. However, this is all work and when you have as much glass as we do, the early start makes for a long season. During the warm weather we have had to continue watering carefully and thoroughly, a task which soaks up a lot of time. A proliferation of pansies!

Our fantastic propagation team have just potted 12 varieties of winter pansies and we have violas, wallflowers and polyanthus which will be ready in September. We also have over 250 varieties of spring bulbs which should be available in the next few weeks.
