Jim and Marion Mountain started the nursery in 1987. Both trained in horticulture at Oaklands, Herts College of Agriculture and Horticulture. Between them, they worked at many notable nurseries including Hilliers, Rochfords, Clarke and Spears and Knaphill Nurseries, before joining an organisation which grew 20% of the salads consumed in this country.
They have since been joined by up to 9 members of staff. Some are fully trained, others pass through and gain from the valuable experience that the nursery provides. We pride ourselves in the depth of experience that we have and are happy to pass it on.
We specialise in the production of perennials. That might make you think there’s not much else. In fact we grow and stock a really good range of plants to give our
garden the colour and scent throughout the year. We leave roses and trees to other specialists.
Having repaired the wall in 1993 and with lots of space to fill, what do you do but plant a garden. This now fills ¾ acre within the wall. There’s a perennial border
with plants list so you can check out what you like, a huge Wisteria pergola and a pond to sit by to gather your thoughts. And of course, more planting, pots........
